Lesson 663 Violence And Politics

Polarization in politics has become a horrible problem in America. It often results in violent language and behavior.

Werther or not it is something that the candidate says or eager followers do, it’s clear that everyone involved with campaigns must lower the temperature of their comments and actions. It’s clear that both parties must do this now.

After yesterday’s assassination attempt, will Donald Trump, his campaign, and followers, be asked to help lower the temperature of their remarks and actions? Trump’s “fist gesture” as his secret service carried him away could very well become a campaign symbol. Something must be done to stop that from becoming rallying cry for violent action!

President Biden talked about stopping violence in a phone call he made to Mr. Trump following the shooting. He is as vulnerable to violence as Trump is as he campaigns.

Candidates everywhere must do the same as they meet with their staff, volunteers, and supporters. This must become a primary topic of political conversations. It’s possible to be an aggressive campaigner without resorting to violent speech, gestures, actions, and lies.

Lesson 662 Biden Should Step Aside

He made his case very well at a press conference yesterday. He thinks he should and can finish the job he started. He thinks the job will be too complicated for someone else.

But he did look frail… and has been looking and acting frail for some time. What’s more…he thinks only HE can win the election.

However, it might be just the time for someone with “fresh thinking” to represent the U.S. A person with foreign affairs experience and knowledge would be welcomed by NATO members. And I bet NATO members would even help this person succeed. This person should have a strong commitment to the idea of NATO and be prepared to champion its cause.

Biden’s knowledge should not go away. He should always be available to counsel his replacement. In fact, he should help with the transition, and announce his willingness to play a roll in it.
